Yay for 2009 and the passing of time 01-01-09 06:50pm CST
Total net weight change in 2008: -26 pounds. Not quite (by a longshot) the 50 that I had planned for, but better than nothing. A lot better than nothing. It's been a very on again-off again year with the Weight Watchers and the working out for me, so my big goal for this year is to actually stay on plan in 2009. Thus, I am currently enjoying my last Sonic Blast at this moment, because I'm starting 2009 tomorrow.

Total money spent on smaller clothes in 2008: I don't even want to think about it. I would not be in the least surprised if that number is in the thousands. I did a better job of restraining myself in the latter half of the year, though.

Companies that I worked for in 2008: Just one. I do believe it was the first calendar year during which I only had one employer since I started working back in 2003.

Days until I start nursing school again: 19. Did I learn nothing the first time around? Actually, I'm kind of looking forward to it. I'm interested to find out what useful things I learn, now that I actually know what information I actually need as opposed to what's just junk for the test.

I bagged my own groceries at Target the other day. After a consistent string of disappointing cashiers putting things together that just don't make sense, I finally requested that I be allowed to do it myself. I got a kind of a weird look, but I got what I wanted. And no eggs were bagged with an electric mixer and Glad wrap.

I'm off. Gotta get ready for what will surely be one of the very first bachelorette parties of 2009!
briannehow long do you have left in your nursing program?
briannewhat do you do right now then? I thought you were IN your nursing program...wow...I'm so out of the loop...
brianneoooooooooh...I didn't know there were two...
well, cool! Good luck with that!
I've got 3 semesters left and am SO ready to be done with school...
mehThat's nice they let you bag your own stuff...I prefer to pack mine too :)
ninja_penguinHalf is better than nothing.

I had a lady tell me yesterday that she wanted to lose 8-10 pounds by April. I thought that was kind of an odd spread (8-10 pounds). I didn't get it at first, but she's pregnant and due April 1.
nat_the_nuisanceTyler Askins, Luke Perkins, Garry Head, and William Ebrom were singing "I Want it That Way" to Jenifer Fancher. :)
sneakgeekthanks for taking the time to come out to the bachelorette party. it was great to have you and wendy there. :) like my mom said, we don't get to see you nearly enough.
tangsoodotpmCongrats on your progress Rachel - you should feel very proud.
adamandjessesdadI believe you're correct about the maid-of-honor with the cellphone! I took that shot with my cellphone from my best-seat-in-the-house, but I didn't notice she had hers out as well.

finals day 12-08-08 02:46pm CST
I cannot realistically make an A in either of my classes.

To get a B in both of my classes, I need to make a 21 on my chemistry final, and a 47 on my statistics final.

I'm not too worried about it. I'm more worried about the line in the testing center and being home by 8 to sign up for my work schedule.

Cool.

Edited to add:
Finals are done. 60 on chemistry, and I spent a grand total of 15 minutes on my guessing... I mean my test.

On my way out, I smoothly stopped by the bookstore and made a quick $133 for my books. (Which will also be reimbursed by my employer... *evil grin*)
adamandjessesdadVery cool.
tangsoodotpmIce cool.
sheshenice!!
el_magnificoI love those kinds of tests :-D hey, got a question. Do you think it would be worth it for me to look into getting my CNA if I'm not looking at being an RN in a hospital?
didowIt sounds like you've got this college stuff figured out. Good for you.
didowHa! I had just been chatting with James before I came and read your blog. Listening to him talk about taking finals (his first ever) and listening to you talk about taking finals was like night and day. He's a tad stressed.
mehGood job! :)
goldenwestAt least you didn't SLEEP THROUGH a final :(... I was so stressed, but then I found the head TA and he let me take it.
ninja_penguinWell, I suggest you live in the land of reality. Get B's in both classes. As long as you don't lose a scholarship, a B is just as good as an A.
nat_the_nuisanceActually, we're invited to go to Stacey Mcguiness' house in Wilie on Christmas Eve.
nat_the_nuisanceI told him you could probably come and he said it would be at 5:00.
iluv2laffI spent most of the time guessing on the clical final yesterday.. it was filled with arrythmia interpretations. After almost 4 months and I still stink at reading those silly things. Good thing that's not my major! ha

A note to leaders of songs 11-16-08 01:38pm CST
The key tone of a song is not supposed to be a secret that you keep from the congregation until you've sung your way through half the first line. Please do not turn your back on me while finding the pitch. I would like to know it, too.

Thanks.

dwatkinsI got one better. Today, our song leader led Be With Me, Lord a third too high. At the end of the first verse, he stopped the congregation and said, "Let me lower that a little." He then started the second verse higher than where he ended the first verse!

Now if only it had been "Holy, Holy, Holy"... :)
i_wantobe_readyTHANK YOU!
tom_bombadilThis might do more good if you asked it directly of the song leader under criticism.
adamandjessesdadInteresting... maybe you should ask him why.
kaceyatthebatA pitch pipe is a musical instrument. I'd hide its usage as well. It's totally offensive.

BAHAHAHAHA!
i_wantobe_ready^^^sadly THAT is precisely why some of our song leaders turn their back to the congregation to get their pitch. In some places there is confusion omoung the brethren about the lowly pitch pipe being a musical instrument. It is NOT a musical instrument, it is an aid to help start a song in the right key. The proper usage of it is to lightly blow the pitch and then sing the key tone anf the starting note for the melody so that the congregation can all start singing on the first note. Whether ot not they do is a whole other story.
adamandjessesdadIt wouldn't matter if it were a piano, as long as nobody was playing a song on it. :-)
kaceyatthebatKen told me I should cut out the joking around. Then he cracked up, too. I'm totally intrigued by these sort of church happenings. I can't help it!
goldenwestI think often times people aren't really sure of themselves when blowing pitch, so they do it quietly to avoid the embarassment of doing it incorrectly.
kaceyatthebatYeah, you can guarantee good response with a post like this. Good job! ;)
sparkerI thought song leaders weren't supposed to blow the pitch into the microphone -- I guess that comes from my dad - something about it not being very polite to blow the pitch pipe into the microphone like it's a harmonica -- but you are supposed to then hum the notes up and down before hand.
sparkeryeah that'd be nice - not
meaganStill Friday at 7?
meaganI'm going to call this afternoon and see if they're expecting a crowd. It couldn't hurt.
meaganI bought my ticket tonight. I talked to the staff there and they expect a big crowd and suggest we get there early. Since I get off work at 5 and I'm like 4 train stops away... I'll be there. :) Probably at Starbucks or something. But, you have my number.
chris_milton74I sometimes envision playing "Axle F" on my electronic pitch pipe prior to starting :)
brandontherunningmanhuh?
diannesWe are gonna go again, tomorrow. Woot.
dianneshahaha :P
iluv2laffhahahaha... did you have singing night at your congregation last night too? :)
iluv2laffoh well... i asked because it seemed like everyone was having pitch problems last night. Thought there was something in the air! :)
beunsungThanks. I appreciate your comment about my pleo name. There is only one other person to my knowledge that noticed it but that was on XBox Live... Oh and thanks for the thought about the key tone... I'll try to do better in the future, if I ever lead a song around you again. ;)
beunsungI dunno... maybe if you're ever in Florida or I'm in Texas in the near future. But I don't know... my crystal ball was broken by squirrels throwing acorns at it.

I must be such a glutton for punishment. 11-06-08 08:52pm CST
"Dear Rachel,

We are proud to have you in the RN/BS Program at Texas Woman's University, College of Nursing, Dallas Center for Spring 2009."

.herewegoagain.

By the way.. how come I didn't know Cody Linley was on this season of Dancing with the Stars? That kid lived in my subdivision, one street away from us growing up. Weeeeeird.
el_magnificohere we go, here we go, here we go again. aw here we go again
littlebitYAY!
brianneI don't get it...is that good or bad?
thearteestCody Linley lived that close? Awesome! I've only seen him in Hoot and a PB&J commercial, I think.
kerriganI've only seen him in Miss Congeniality, and the front page of the DMN.
diannesGo girl, that is awesome.
kiss_the_rainwoooow
meaganLet's go, let's go! What time do you want?
meaganOh, I was thinking more like 7. I just got this new "real" job, and I'll be working til 5. Didn't you say you work on Saturday? What time?
meaganTeenyboppers don't usually go to the Angelika (that's why I like it), but I could be wrong in this case... Let's shoot for 7 on Friday!
iluv2laffcongrants the RN/BS program! You must love school (haha)! Cody Linley cracks me up!
gone2neptuneyeah, it would be so nice to be able to peek into someone else's brain during tests. ha!
diannesYeah, you put your finger on it. Bella, seems stiff. 'Edward' seems to play his part well. Keeping my fingers crossed.
yodaHAHA! I think that needs to be a stocking stuffer! That's the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. Thanks for sharing! How are things going with you? Will we see you sometime this Christmas?

I thought I was going to want to take a break from the political media coverage.

Now I want to take a break from Pleonast, Facebook, and every other medium by which I keep in touch with Christians.

My world is not coming to an abrupt halt. I have not suddenly lost all reason for happiness in life. This world is not my home.

I didn't think a Republican victory would do us much good, either...

I don't know about you.
adamandjessesdadAmen.
cascadingharmonyAmen!
tangsoodotpmA hearty amen!
melissakaeHey, don't lump us all together! ;-)
beckydso true- Rusty Miller had a really good sermon on this topic on Sunday.
kerriganYou are an exception. Several people are. But I am staggered by the numbers of people who I figured are pretty reasonable, who are simply going to pieces. And others who are suddenly turning into people who are just hateful
txbowlerI must have not gone to the same blogs as you. Pretty much everything I've seen has been of the "trust in God" variety, and mostly positive, such as what he wrote.
kerriganYou are correct. You haven't read everything that I've read. I feel it would be counterproductive, however, to point out the people who have posted in doomsday fashion.
txbowlerWell, now that I've taken a few minutes of my lunch to read more, I have seen more of a mix.

I find it amusing that there are people referring to or equating him as a bad president before he has even taken office. Having different ethical beliefs and being a bad president are not always mutually inclusive.

emily_marieHey, I'm coming home this weekend to go camping with you my love!! I am soo excited about making smores.
emily_marieDo you know what time we're leaving?
dwatkinsI don't know about everybody else, but I had a wonderful day yesterday. Thank you for wanting to count blessings instead of national/spiritual mosquito bites!
el_magnificoyeah, you said it pretty well.
beckydgo here for Rusty's sermon pertaining to the election results. I found it very helpful :)
